Banco de Guatemala has presented today its new banknote of 100 quetzales (GTQ100.4) commemorative of the 80th Anniversary of the Bank’s Foundation.
Alvaro González, Governor the Bank, informed that the notes, 0f which 15 million pieces were printed by PWPW S.A. (Polish Security Printing Works, Inc.), will be issued on 25 May and distributed through the banking system.
In the front it can be seen the portrait of Bishop Francisco Marroquín, a defender of the native people and instrumental in the progress of Education in Guatemala. It also show the image of the quetzal, inspired by the first banknote issued by Banco de Guatemala.
In the back we can see San Carlos University which celebrates this year its 350th Anniversary.
The three part security strip shows the number “100” in Arabic and Mayan characters, and “EL QUETZAL ES ORGULLO, CONFIANZA Y FUTURO PARA GUATEMALA” in micro text.
The note has high relief Braille and tactile printed bars to assist people with restricted vision to identify it.
