The Central Bank of Sri Lanka announced on January 30 a new standard circulating banknote of 1,000 rupees (LKR1,000.7) commemorative of the 70th Anniversary of Independence.
The size and main colors are similar to that of the current note, except that it shows in the front the 70th Anniversary logo, a Hindu Temple, a Mosque, a Tamil Kovil and a Church.
Five million notes were printed. carrying the serial prefix S70. They are dated 2018.02.04. A limited number with low serial numbers will be made available in an attractive holder at the price of LKR1,300.
