The BEAC is having difficulty putting the notes of the new family in circulation because one of the six countries who make the community is objecting.
The Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) seems to be against the release of the new banknotes. It seems that some of their politicians are holding large amounts of CFA francs in cash. The issue of new banknotes may present a problem for them, so they are vetoing the release of new banknotes until they manage to get rid of the ones they already have.
It is estimated that the amount of cash stashed by politicians if XAF 752 billion, equal to about 1.15 billion USD.
