Bulgaria has been approved on June 4 by the European Commission to adopt the euro as of January 1st, 2026.

Leva banknotes and coin will continue to be legal tender up to 31 January 2026. They will be redeemable without charge at commercial banks for one month and at Post Offices for six months. Afterward the National Bank will redeem them without charge or time limit.
