Recently the Houthis, who control the Northern part of Yemen, have declared illegal the newer banknotes issued by the Central Bank located in Aden, in the South.

This has caused residents in the North to try to procure the old notes, the ones issued years ago, which are scarce and in poor condition, creating thus a monetary crisis. The old notes are trading at a premium over the new ones.

The notes that can be used in the Northern part of Yemen are the ones printed before 2017. In the South both the old and the new are valid.
