Steven Mnuchin, U.S. Treasury Secretary, said on Thursday June 11 that the United States has no plans to unveil this year a new 20 dollars banknote with the image of Harriet Tubman to replace that of  Andrew Jackson.

He also said that the decision should be taken by a new secretary, and that a new banknote will not be issued until 2030, because “redesigning the currency required developing complicated anticounterfeiting technology and a new printing process. which takes many years”.

The Obama Administration had planned to have the banknote in circulation by 2020.

N.R.:  While it is true that the mentioned process takes some time, it is doubtful that it will take such a long time.
