The National Bank of Ukraine issued today, 4 September 2026, its high denomination banknote, the 2000 griven (UAH2,000.1.)
It shows the portrait of Vasyl Stus in the front and the Philology Faculty of the Donetsk National University, where he studied.
Stus was a poet and Soviet era dissident. On this date in 1985 he died at the Perm-36 maximum security camp in Russia.
