The Central Bank of Sri Lanka issued today 29 August 2025 a new banknote of 2.000 rupees (LKR2,000.2) to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of its creation.
Its theme is “Stability for Prosperity.”
This note was originally planned to commemorate the Bank’s 70th Anniversary, but the financial crisis at the time caused its cancellation.
The front of the note shows the Banks’s Head Office, and the Colombo Lighthouse Clock Tower and the 75th Anniversary logo. On the back it presents a stylized map of Sri Lanka, a water lily and the Bank’s statement.
A total of 50 million pieces are to be issued for general circulation.
It is dated 2025.08.28; it’s blue, printed on 100% coated cotton paper with a watermark of a lion holding a sword. It measures 151 x 67 mm and has a wide color shifting security strip with the image of the Colombo Clock Tower and the numeral 2000.
