As of 1 January 2024 the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has increased the limits for the import and export of currency and monetary instruments.
The new rules are:
Foreign currency
- Import: Declaration required if traveler has more than USD15,000 or its equivalent in currency or monetary instruments, or if it intends to leave Sri Lanka with USD10,000 or its equivalent.
- Export: Declaration required for amounts above USD10,000 or its equivalent in other currencies or monetary instruments.
Local currency: LKR20,000 in or out.
