20 September 2026.
As part of the U.S. Currency Program started in 2023 the Bureau of Engraving and Printing is modernizing its production equipment, which will result in banknotes in straps of non sequential serial numbered banknotes.
Notes of 1; 2; 5 and 20 dollars are currently being in the new system.
The change is being done in a gradual way, and eventually all notes will be produced in the new way.
Traditional equipment will be used to produce “star” notes to replace sequential serial numbers on imperfect Federal Reserve ones.
