The Central Bank of Qatar presented today 13 December 2021 its Fifth Series of banknotes.

For the first time it incorporates the denomination of 200 riyals (QAR200.1). This completely new family of notes contains 50+ security features. A total of 8 billion riyals in new notes will be pumped starting 18 December 2020, on the occasion of Qatar National Day.

The front design of the new banknotes share a common theme based on traditional geometric patterns, the State of Qatar flag, Qatari flora (Dreama) and a gate representing historical Qatari architecture.

These are the motifs in the back of the new notes:

1 riyal (QAR1.4)  Traditional Dhow (Bateel) and the Oyster and Pearl Monument.

5 riyals (QAR5.4)  Traditional desert scene comprising fauna (Arab horses, Camel, Oryxes), flora (Al Qataf) and ‘hair tent (buryuut hajar).

10 riyals (QAR10.4)  Lusail Stadium, Torch Tower (Aspire Zone), Sidra Medicine and Education City (Qatar Foundation).

50 riyals (QAR50.4)  Qatar Central Bank building and Ministry of Finance building.

100 riyals (QAR100.5)  Abu Al Qubaib Mosque.

200 riyals (QAR200.1)  Palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar National Museum and Museum of Islamic Art.

500 riyals (QAR500.5)  Ras Laffan LNG refinery and LNG canter ship. This note will have the “Nexus” security thread, a “unique” feature being introduced first time in the world.

The following older notes will cease to be legal tender on 19 March 2021, and may be redeemed for a period not exceeding 10 years.

5 riyals. (QAR5.3A and 5B)

10 riyals. (QAR10.3A and 5B)

50 riyals. (QAR50.3A and 5B)

100 riyals (QAR100.4)

500 riyals  (QAR500.4)
