Mamerto Tangonan, Deputy Governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, announced today 25 October 2021, that the Central Bank is considering a trial run of  “a few hundred million pieces” of 1,000 piso (PHP1,000.3) banknotes to be printed on polymer.substrate by the first half of 2022.

He mentioned the advantages of longer durability, cleanliness and anti-forgery protection offered by polymer notes compared with cotton paper ones.
