The Central Bank of Oman announced the issue on 11 January 2026 of a new 1 rial banknote printed on polymer substrate. At that time 1000 uncut sheets and 10,000 banknotes presented in elegantly designed envelopes will be available for sale at the Central Bank of Oman (Ruwi-Salalah-Sohar) and Oman Post’s sales window at the Opera Galleria.

This commemorative Banknote (OMR1.8,) is the first of its kind in the history of Omani Currency.

Its design includes the Oman Botanical Garden on the front side and Sayyid Tarik bin Taimour Cultural Complex, Duqm Port and Duqm Refinery on the back side.

It has several security features such as the large transparent window represented by the arched windows of the Oman Botanical Garden, which occupied a large area of the banknote and an optically variable ink imprint with the Frankincense Tree on the front and  the CBO’s pattern on the back.

It will co-circulate alongside existing banknotes.
