The Kosovar Government instituted a rule effective tomorrow 1 February 2024, which bans the use of Serbian currency in the areas with large Serbian speaking population, especially in the North. This regulation would force them to use euros instead. It creates problems to many Serbs who receive pensions and Social Security payments in Serbian currency.

While the rule will not be changed, it has been decided that it will not be applied rigorously to give time for people to get used to the new situation and make the required changes.

Serbs are 5% of the total population of Kosovo, with Albanians at 93% are the largest group, with smaller quantities of Bosniaks, Turks, Ashkali, Egyptians, Gorani and Roma.
