Patrick Njoroge, Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, has said yesterday the there will be no extension for the exchange of old banknotes of 1,00o shillings (KES1,000.1 and KES1,000.2).

These notes will become worthless after the end of this month. After September 30 “will only be good for lighting jikos”. (Jikos are portable ceramic stoves.)
