Jamal Kocher, member of the Iraqi Parliament Finance Commission announced that the Central Bank is considering issuing new banknotes with three zeros removed.

The Central Bank has the authority to modify its banknotes design, but to change the monetary unit a Law is required, which has to be presented by the Government to Parliament for its approval.

He also mentioned that a new small denomination banknote or coin may be issued to facilitate small change.

Note of the editor: There are sellers of Iraqi dinars who seem to imply that with redenomination the banknotes they are pushing will increase in value by 1000 times. If and when redenomination happens most likely older notes will be recalled and it may be difficult to repatriate them to obtain value.
