After the demonetization of the banknotes of 10.000 (GNF10,000.3) and 20.000 francs (GNF20,000.1) dated 2015, and the introduction of the new ones dated 2019 (GNF10,000.4 and GNF20,000.2) kn Guinea there is an ongoing banknote crisis, where banks cannot obtain enough currency from the Central Bank, creating problems for customers to withdraw cash from their own accounts.

To resolve this situation Karamo Kaba, governor of the Central Bank, announced that new banknotes will be printed and distributed between August and October of this year.

No mention has been made on whether all or some of these new notes may be of denominations larger that the current one of 20.000 francs.
