The Government of Gibraltar has issued today a new banknote of 5 pounds (GIP5.6) which may be the first of a new family of smaller notes to follow the standards of the new British notes. It features advanced security features, and were printed by Thomas de La Rue.

The front shows Queen Elizabeth II, with the Windsor bridge on the back.

Current larger notes (GIP5.5) are being withdrawn from circulation and may exchanged at commercial banks up to 31 January 2022. Afterward these may be redeemed at the Treasury Department of the Ministry of Finance.
