The government has been urged to introduce banknotes of 500 cedis (GHS500.1)  with the portrait of  Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, in recognition of his enormous contributions to national development, Africa, and humanity.

Dr Dee Otibu-Asare, the founder of Nkrumah Vision Alive Movement, a group that seeks to advocate the achievements, philosophy and ideology of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, made the call in a statement issued in Accra, to mark the 116th birthday celebration of Dr Nkrumah.

The banknote of 200 cedis (GHS200.1) is currently the largest in circulation, with a value of USD24.13.
