John Dramami Mahama, Ghana’s President, announced that Ghana’s currency security must be refreshed to avoid the risk of counterfeiting.
Speaking in a “Resetting Ghana Tour” he mentioned that he is aware of plans by the Bank of Ghana Governor to do so, but he stressed that the decision of how and when to do it is up to the Central Bank.
He pointed that the refresh would primarily involve updating the security features of Ghana’s banknotes to make them more difficult to counterfeit, and not a change of value of the cedi or redenomination.
