Some visitors to Italy have reported problems when they tried to exchange or make payments using banknotes of 500 euros (EUR500.1). Some banks will require detailed documentation about the provenance of these notes.
A brief survey of merchants indicates that there seem to be no problem in the use of these banknotes in other euro zone countries.
