Extreme care should be taken when accepting banknotes of 200 euros of the 2002 First Series (EUR200.1) with signs of water damage.

It seems that large amounts paid to Libyan dictator Ghaddaffi where hidden and later damaged by water. 

We have received reports of Central Banks of the Eurosystem being instructed not to redeem and retain them for further inspection.
