The Governing Council of the European Central Bank today selected “European culture” and “Rivers and birds” as possible themes for future euro notes.

Those, along with “Birds: free, resilient, inspiring” were the three most voted in the survey conducted among European residents.

The ECB is expected to decide on the final designs and when to produce and issue the new banknotes in 2026. The issue of new notes may take several years before the new notes are issued.
