The National Bank of Ethiopia on 5 September 2022 has issued directives increasing the amounts of local and foreign currencies travelers may take in or out of Ethiopia without filing a Customs Currency Declaration.

The new limit for Ethiopian currency is 3,000 birr, and 10,000 birr for persons traveling to or from Djibouti. The previous limit was 200 birr.

For foreign currency the limit has been increased from USD1,000 to USD4,000 or equivalent.
