All 1000 kroner banknotes, old and new, will become worthless as of 31st May 2026. This also applies to all notes from previous series.

Redemption can only be made in person at the three branches of the firm Forex in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense. 

It is not possible to mail them for redemption. 

Redemption has to be made in person. It is not possible to do it on behalf of a relative or a friend. This is specially difficult for senior citizens and handicapped and sick persons who cannot easily travel.

Amounts up to DKK5000 are reimbursed on the spot.

Amounts up to 20,000 kroner must be deposited to bank accounts. Origin of funds documentation is required for amounts over DKK5,000.

Danmarks Nationalbank does not provide the service in their offices.

It is most notable that Danmarks Nationalbank makes it very difficult to redeem these notes for persons living far from Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense and points outside Denmark.
