All banknotes issued between 1991 and 1998 which were redeemable at the rate of 1,000 old leva for a new one will become worthless as the Bulgarian National Bank decided to end their redemption at the end of 2025.

The banknotes denominated in new leva issued after 1999 will cease to be legal tender by 31 January 2026, and redeemable under further notice.
