Alejandro Alegre, General Director of the Issue Department of Banco de Mexico, announced in an interview published in June that the Bank plans to issue next year a new banknote of 20 pesos (MXN20.7) commemorative of the 200th Anniversary of Independence.

He also informed that the COVID-19 pandemic is causing delays in the production of new banknotes, delaying the release of the those of 1,000 pesos of the new family (MXN1,000.3) which were due in the first half of this year.
