   You saw it here first…

As we anticipated two days ago, the Banco Central de Costa Rica presented yesterday its new family of polymer banknotes.

While the main motifs remain unchanged the new banknotes have many improvements over the previous ones.

The notes of 20,000 colones (CRC20,000.2) are the ones to be released first, on 26 November 2020.

Those of 2,000 (CRC2,000.3) and 5,000 colones (CRC5,000.3) will be issued in early December, while the notes of 1,000 (CRC1,000.5) and 10,000 colones (CRC20,000.2) should be released next year, unless the supply of current ones are exhausted sooner.

All notes of the previous versions dated 2009-16 continue to be current.
