Contrary to what was previously announced all older Zambian banknotes will become worthless on 31 March 2026. Originally those of 2 through 20 kwacha were redeemable until 31 July 2026. Only the ones of 50 and 100 kwacha were to end at the end of the March.

Bank of Zambia has recently reminded the public that the final date is 31 March. As of 28 February 95% of the notes were already redeemed. BoZ warns that no extension will be granted.
