Certain American banks have instructed their tellers to refuse dollar notes that are being rejected by their counting machines. While many counting machines will accept good notes that are very used, have writings, tape, or are missing tiny portions, the most advanced reject most unfit notes. These machines may also reject the “small head” banknotes.

That makes retail businesses more careful when receiving in payment notes they consider to be unfit.
