Janet Yellen, Secretary of the Treasury, and Lynn Malerba, Treasurer of the United States, participated today in a ceremony where they witnessed the printing of banknotes of one and five dollars bearing their signatures.
These are the first American banknotes signed by two women. Ms Yellen is the first woman leading the Treasury Department, and Ms Malerba is the first Native American to be Treasurer of the United States.
These banknotes printed by the Fort Worth facility of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing will be delivered to the Federal Reserve this year, to be issued to the public in 2023.
