According to unconfirmed reports the banknotes of 1,000 shillings (UGX1,000.4B) and 2,000 shillings (UGX2,000.1B) dated 2024 were printed on coated paper, to improve their durability.

Bank of Uganda has decided to stop future printing of 1,000 shillings notes, due to the high cost of production. Most likely these will be gradually replaced by coins.
