According to unconfirmed comments Turkey is planning to issue a 500 lira banknote.
Currently the largest banknote in circulation, the 200 lira (TRY200.1) which was worth around USD130 when originally issued in 2009 is now worth USD13.50.
There is also talk of replacing the 5 lira banknote (TRY5.1) with a coin, because its value has dropped to some 34 US cents.
