Keith Rowley, Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister, announced on Sunday 18 August 2024 that it plans to eliminate the Colonial reference to Spain by changing the three Spanish carvels in their coat of arms for a steelpan, their popular percussion instrument.

The country is in the way to remove all vestiges of the colonial era. Rowley will hold soon a public hearing on whether certains statues, signs and monuments should be removed.

As their current notes show the coat of arms with the three Spanish carvels, it is quite possible that the change will affect current notes.
