According to many sources the new government of Syria is considering moving the printing of new banknotes from Russia to fiscal printers in Germany or the United Arab Emirates.

The portrait of Bashar al-Assad will be removed from the new banknotes, as well as the flag, which has been changed to the 1932 version.

It is quite possible that smaller denominations of minimal value will be abandoned, and that larger ones will be issued. Presently the largest note, the 5,000 Syrian pounds (SYP5,000.1), is only worth about half U.S. dollar.
