There is now a difficult cash situation in Sudan.
In January, to prevent the “Rapid support forces” to use the cash they ransacked from the banks in the area they controlled, the Sudanese Army government withdraw from circulation the banknotes of 500 and 1.000 Sudanese pounds, requiring their holders to deposit them to bank accounts, to be later replaced with new ones.
Half a year on not enough new notes 1.000 Sudanese pounds, and none of the 500’s have been printed. People are forced to wait outside banks for days being unable to dispose of their withdrawn notes.
To complicate matters the rate in the informal market has risen to SDG3.000 per U.S. dollar, making the largest note in circulation worth only 33 U.S. cents.
Several banks have digital currency applications which are widely used.
