Several sources commented that the Bank of South Sudan plans to issue larger banknotes.

Currently their highest denomination are the ones of 1,000 South Sudan pounds (SSP1.000,1 and 1.000,2) which are worth some 16 U.S. cents at the informal market.

In 2026 it was announced the future release of larger notes, but that has not happened yet.
