According to an article published today 16 September 2025 by The Tanzania Times, the Central Bank of South Sudan is in the process of printing banknotes of 5,000 (SSP5.000.1) and 10.000 South Sudan pounds (SSP10,000.1.)

Currently the largest banknote in circulation is the one of 1.000 South Sudan pounds (SSP1,000.1 and SSP1,000.2) worth approximately 17 U.S. cents at the informal rate of exchange.

Note from the Editor: This image seems to relate to the first series of banknotes issued in 2018. In 2024 the monetary unit name was changed to “South Sudan pound.”
