Bank of Sierra Leone announced this week in a press release that it will redenominate its currency by eliminating three zeros. Thus a new leone will be equal to 1,000 current leones.
New banknotes of a smaller size will be printed, and the current ones will continue to be in use until a decision is taken on their withdrawal.
It has been mentioned that the new banknotes may start circulating in November.
