The Banco Central de São Tomé e Príncipe has published new currency export rules as of 3 March 2018.
These are:
The export of local currency is limited to 5 pieces of each denomination of both the new and old families of notes. Larger amounts will be confiscated.
The import by non residents of amounts in excess of EUR 10,000 or its equivalent in other currencies must be declared, especially if re-export is intended.
The export by residents is limited to the equivalent of STN 245,000 (= EUR10,000).
Non residents wishing to export amounts in excess of STN 245,000 equivalent in other currencies must show proof of previous import.
