The Central Bank of Rwanda has withdrawn from circulation effective 2 March 2026 several older banknotes issued before 2015. These are redeemable until 1 November 2026 at commercial banks and branches of Unwalimu SACCO. After that date these are   only redeemable at the Central Bank Head Office and branches until 1 March 2027.

The notes to be recalled are:

RWF500.6  500 francs  01.02.2008

RWF500.7   500 francs  01.01.2013

RWF1,000.6  1,ooo francs  01.07.2004

RWF1,000.7  1,000 francs  01.05.2015

RWF2,000.1  2,000 francs  31.10.2007

RWF5,000.5  5,000 francs  01.04.2004

RWF5,000.6  5,000 francs  01.02.2009
