The Advisory Board on Banknotes of the Bank of Russia called for an open meeting to discuss symbols for the new banknote of 1,000 rubles.
The original note was to be issued in October 2023, but there was opposition from the Russian Orthodox Church because the Museum building shown on the note used to be a former mosque showing a crescent, the Moslem symbol.
The meeting scheduled to have taken place on 18 November was to be attended by Elvira Nabiullina, Head of the Bank of Russia, and Sergei Below, Deputy chair of the bank, as well as members of the Advisory Board.
The specialists attending the meeting will later decide with motifs representing the Volga Federal District will be presented to the public to decide for their inclusion in the new note.
