Mamady Doumbouya, President of Guinea-Conakry ordered on 17 March the printing of a “new banknote.”
The country is suffering a severe cash scarcity, caused by people stashing it instead of depositing it in bank accounts.
The largest denomination is 20,000 francs (GNF20,000.1 and .2) which is worth USD2.28.
The obvious solutions are to create incentives to deposit it in banks instead of stashing, and to print larger banknotes to reduce costs.
