The Central Bank of Myanmar announced the issuing of new 1,000-kyat (MMK1,000.3) currency notes with the image of late national hero General Aung San next year, according to a release from the Information Ministry late Friday.
The circulation of the newly designed 1,000-kyat notes will be launched on Jan. 4 next year.
The move came after the parliament in 2017 approved a proposal of issuing new banknotes with the image of the late national hero.
A portrait of late General Aung San is printed on the center of the face of new 150 x 70 mm – sized currency notes while an image of parliament building is printed on the back of the note.
At present, banknotes 50-kyat, 100-kyat, 200-kyat, 500-kyat, 1,000-kyat, 5,000-kyat and 10,000-kyat are circulating in Myanmar.
