On the 37th Annniversary of the introduction of the metical, the Banco de Moçambique has issued on June 16 banknotes dated 2017. They come in the denominations of 1,000; 500 and 200 meticais printed on paper, and 100; 50 and 20 printed on polymer. They carry the signature of Rogério Zandamela, Governor of the Bank.

The notes are similar to the 2011 ones, with the exception of the new date and changed signature.
