Banque Centrale de Mauritanie has recently issued a new banknote of 20 ouguiya (MRU20.1), which completes its new family of notes.
Dated 28.11.2020, it is printed on polymer substrate, measures 130 x 66 mm, and cocirculates with the coin of the same value.
In the front it shows the Grand Mosque of Gataga in Kaedi, one of the oldest mosques in Mauritania, built in 1386 in a Sudanese-Sahelien style.
The back shows the Guelb er Richât, a prominent circular geological feature in the Sahara’s Adrar Plateau, near Ouadane This geological formation can be seen from space. It is called “The eye of Africa”.
