The new banknote of 5,000 kwacha (MWK5,000.1) is being released to circulation today. It is worth USD6.22 at the official rate of exchange.
Reserve Bank of Malawi is issuing this note to relieve pressure on the need to print more 2,000 kwacha notes.
It has conducted a three months campaign to raise awareness about the new note through radio, TV and newspapers ads.
