The Central Bank of Kenya has suspended the repatriation of Kenyan currency, as part of the process of demonetizing the older banknotes of 1,000 shillings (KES1,000.1A/B/C and KES1,000.2A/B/C).
Bank of Tanzania and Bank of Uganda have issued rules that greatly limit or forbid the use and import/export of Kenyan currency in their respective territories.
