Bank of Jamaica has ceased to issue paper notes in November, and intends to withdraw them from circulation in two years, when they will be demonetized. The exact date will be announced later. After demonetization the old notes will be destroyed.
Currently paper notes make about 40% of circulation. Most of cash acceptors have been updated to receive and dispense polymer notes, but there still is one bank that has not updated them to process JMD2,000 notes.
