The Bank of Jamaica has decided that all paper banknotes will cease to be legal tender by 1 July 2025. These were replaced by the new polymer family of notes issued in June 2023.
After that date these will continue to be redeemed indefinitely.
The notes to be withrawn for circulation are:
50 dollars: issued from 1988 to 2021. (MRI50.1, 2, 3, 4.)
100 dollars: issued from 1986 to 2021. (MRI100.1, 2, 3, 4.)
500 dollars: issued from 2009 to 2012. (MRI500.1, 2.)
1,000 dollars: issued from 2012 to 2021. (MRI1,000.1, 2.)
5,000 dollars: issued from 2009 to 2012. (MRI5,000.1,)
Older banknotes may also be redeemed indefinitely.
